Analysis of nasal ptosis correction using lower lateral to upper lateral cartilage suspension.

چکیده
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the durability of lower lateral to upper lateral cartilage suspension (LUCS) in the correction of nasal tip ptosis. METHODS Patients with extreme nasal tip ptosis who subsequently underwent cosmetic rhinoplasty were eligible for this retrospective case study. Severe tip ptosis was defined as a nasolabial angle less than or equal to 80° in men and 90° in women. Of 34 patients identified who underwent LUCS in the past 18 years, 24 were found to have at least 1-year follow-up images and documented clinic visits. Thirteen of these patients were observed for at least 3 years and comprise the long-term cohort. Preoperative morphed or hand-drawn illustrations were obtained, and the nasolabial angles were measured and compared with those of the standard preoperative, 1-year postoperative, and long-term postoperative groups. RESULTS The mean preoperative nasolabial angle for the entire group was 83.4°. The mean preoperative morphed or illustrated angles measured 104.7°. The mean 1-year and long-term follow-up angles measured 102.5° and 101.5°, respectively. The differences among the preoperative, 1-year postoperative, and long-term groups were significant at P < .001. The similarities between the morphed, 1-year postoperative, and long-term angles were also statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS The LUCS is a durable technique in the correction of nasal tip ptosis. It has consistently proved to provide accurate and reproducible results.

An algorithm for treatment of the drooping nose.
UNLABELLED Nasal tip ptosis ("drooping" or long nose) occurs when the tip of the nose is more caudal than what is deemed ideal. Intrinsic factors, such as elongated or caudally-rotated lower lateral cartilages, can lead to nasal tip ptosis. Extrinsic factors, such as elongated upper lateral cartilages or excessive caudal anterior septum and heavy nasal skin, can push the nasal tip caudally and ...

Introduction: Rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgical procedures performed among Iranians. An important issue to be considered by nasal surgeons is anatomical variations between different ethnic groups. Working on Iranians with the existing ethnic variety encourages the need for an analysis of this particular population. Materials and Methods: The present cross-...

OBJECTIVE To define the modulus of elasticity for nasal septum, auricular, upper lateral, and lower lateral cartilages. METHODS Prospective enrollment of sequential patients undergoing septorhinoplasty. Test samples were obtained through routine surgical interventions using atraumatic harvesting techniques. The modulus of elasticity was determined using a customized biomechanical testing devi...
متن کاملRepositioning of the lower lateral cartilage in primary cleft nasoplasty: utilization of a modified Tajima technique.
Repositioning the lower lateral cartilages during primary cleft nose repair often requires external bolsters to place suspension sutures. We describe a series of primary unilateral cleft nasal repairs using a modified Tajima technique. The cleft-side lower lateral cartilage is suspended to the contralateral upper lateral cartilage using a buried polydioxanone suture passed through a reverse-U i...
متن کاملBulbous Tip Correction Focusing on Skin Soft Tissue Envelope in Asian Rhinoplasty
A bulbous nasal tip is commonly seen in Asians; its correction represents a significant portion of Asian rhinoplasties. Bulbous tip correction in Caucasians mainly aims at reducing excess lower lateral cartilage and performing suture techniques on well-developed lower lateral cartilage [1-4]. Asians with a bulbous tip have a small, weak lower lateral cartilage and nasal septum [5,6]. Therefore,...
